How To Recover Deleted Files On PC

Earlier we wrote on how to recover deleted messages on Android and how to recover deleted photos on android, Now we’ll show you how to recover deleted files on PC. We do encounter the frustration of accidentally deleting important files or suddenly realizing the need for a deleted file. And more than once we just give up all hope of restoring the file. But there are ways to recover deleted files even after you empty the Recycle Bin.

Let’s take a look at ways to recover files permanently deleted from your computer.

  • How to recover deleted files by using the file log

If you are not backing up, we hope you have activated your history backup status if you are running Windows 8, as it will automatically back up the version to your files. This can be an excellent solution.
To work with the log files, first, go to “Settings” on your Windows 8 system, then “Control Panels.” Look for “Save backups of your files with the data file” in “System and Security.” To recover the file from the file log, select Restore Profile on the left side of the window.

This shows all folders that are crawled using the file log. To check a particular folder, such as “Desktop,” double-click to see what you’ve stored.

To restore the most recent backup of the file, click to select it, and then click the Restore green round button at the bottom of the window. A moment or two passes and returns the file, safe and sound to the desktop.

  • How To Recover Deleted Files: Restore files from a backup

To restore a file from the backup, make sure that the media or drive that is saving the backup is available, and then follow these steps:

1. Open Backup and Restore by clicking the Start button, click Control Panel, System, and Maintenance, and then click Backup and Restore.

2. Click Restore Files, and follow the steps in the wizard.

  • How To Recover Deleted Files: Restore files from older versions

You can restore deleted files and folders or restore a file or folder to a previous state.

To restore a deleted file or folder

1. Open the computer by clicking the Start button, and then click Computer.

2. Navigate to the folder that contains the file or folder, right-click it, and then click Restore Previous Versions. If the folder is at the top of a drive, for example, C: \, right-click the drive and then click Restore Previous Versions.

You will see a list of the previously available versions of the file or folder. The list will include files saved in a backup (if you use Windows BackUp to backup files) and restore points if both types are available.

3. To restore a previous copy of a file or folder that is included in a library, right-click the file or folder in the place where it was saved, not in the library. For example, to restore an earlier copy of an image that is contained in the Photo Library but is stored in the Pictures folder, right-click the My Pictures folder, and then click Restore Previous Versions.

4. Double-click the older version of the folder that contains the file or folder that you want to restore. (For example, if a file is deleted today, choose a version from the Yesterday folder, which should contain the file.)

5. Drag the file or folder that you want to restore to another location, such as the desktop or another folder.

6. A copy of the file or folder is saved in the location you specified.

Stop access to the unit immediately.

If your files are not in the Recycle Bin or any of the ways described above, do not save anything to your computer or delete it. Your chances of recovering the file are much greater if you do not save anything new. This is because when a file is deleted, it is set to overwrite it. If no new data is replaced with the original file, it can usually be recovered.

  • How To Recover Deleted Files: Use the file recovery program

If you do not have any backup and your file is not in the Recycle Bin, you can try one of many data recovery programs out there, either free or commercial application such as Easy Undelete, Undelete 360, Pandora Recovery or Riffa.

Another option is Disk Drill, a recovery tool originally designed for Mac OS and now available for Windows operating system. OffRes helps with partition loss, hard drive resetting, failed startup, accidental deletion, and more. Make sure you do not save it to the drive you need to recover a file, or you can overwrite a file you need to recover. Another possibility to consider: Has the file been sent to anyone? Have you saved a copy to a cloud-based service such as Dropbox, Excel or Skydrive? If so, you may be able to take a copy of it. Again, even if you lose the latest changes, it is better than nothing. However you can approach it, there are many options to explore after you realize that you have accidentally deleted an image, document, spreadsheet, report or other files. And get those backups too, so the next time you need to find a deleted file, you will have more options.
