New Volkswagen Polo
The wait is over, the new Volkswagen Polo is ready to make its official debut on June 16 this year. That said, potential buyers in India will have to wait for next year, when this premium hatchback of the German automaker is expected to arrive in our country. The new Volkswagen Polo is based on the MQB A0 platfrom which has made the car lighter, wider and longer than the model of the previous generation. However, it is expected that the Indian specification version can be based on the Tata Motor AMP (Advanced Modular Platform) under the Tata-Volkswagen partnership which underlines the exchange of technology and hardware by the two automotive giants. However, the new Age Polo is going to be a brand new vehicle that it replaces and in India will compete against the tastes of the existing breed of premium hatchbacks.
The new Volkswagen Polo has already been triggered by the German automaker, revealing what the exterior profile of this upcoming hatchback would be like, through completely camouflaged images. However, the completely disguised images of the next generation of Polo have also appeared on the Internet lately. Passing through these, the new Volkswagen Polo is to adorn a much more elegant and aggressive exterior profile. Firstly, the Polo gets a traditional Volkswagen facade with tilt headlights, angular bumpers, bold character lines on the sides, while the rear square side lights are obtained.
Details of the cab of the new Volkswagen Polo have not been revealed yet. However, we expect the hatch to come with a superior quality interior, with state-of-the-art material quality. It is expected that the color scheme is mainly black and loaded with multiple features and amenities. The Pole is to get infotainment system with touch screen, mounted steering control, automatic climate control, leather upholstery, automatic dimming IRVMs among others.
The specification of the next-generation Volkswagen Polo engine is to remain the same as before, for the specification version of India. The gasoline derivative will be powered by a 1.0-liter, 3-cylinder engine while the diesel derivative is to get a 1.5-liter oil burner. The transmission responsibilities will be handled by a 5-speed manual gearbox as standard.
Speaking of prices, we expect the new Volkswagen Polo will slot in the range of INR 6 lakh to 11 lakh (ex-showroom). The Polo will continue to compete against the likes of Maruti Suzuki Baleno, Hyundai Elite i20 and Fiat Punto Evo.
