BMW X3 M40i vs Mercedes-AMG GLC43
BMW fans have been waiting for a hot X3 for a long time. Of all the brand’s SUVs, the BMW X3 is best suited for performance. It is rear-drive-based unit, unlike its smaller brother X1, and is smaller than its larger, more luxury-oriented X5 brother. However, it was the only BMW SUV not to have a performance variant. So far, that is. The G01 generation of the BMW X3 M40i is finally here to bring some bite to the X3. While it is not a full M car, it is still a fast and performance-driven SUV that should rival the likes of the Mercedes-AMG GLC43 and Audi SQ5. So he’s in good company.
But let’s concentrate on his Stuttgart rival. The Mercedes-AMG GLC43 is probably the most exciting and exciting small-performance SUV on the market. While the Porsche Macan GTS is probably sharper, the AMG is winning the sales race. So it is the main competition of the BMW X3 M40i. And the tough competition will be, since the little AMG is fast, fun and exciting.
Both cars offer turbocharged six-cylinder engines. For the BMW, it’s a 3.0-liter turbocharged I6 that makes 355 horsepower. For the AMG, it’s a 3.0 liter double-turbo V6 that makes 362 horsepower. Both cars also get automatic torque converters, with the BMW getting an eight-speed ZF and the AMG with one of the nine-speed Mercedes units. So they are fairly even and it shows in the performance figures of both cars. Mercedes-AMG is claiming 4.5 seconds at 60 mph for its GLC43 and BMW is claiming 4.6 seconds for its X3 M40i. Although, we can not really compare these cars based on performance or how they drive, since we have not driven yet. So, for now, we can only compare how they look.
The Mercedes-AMG GLC43 is much softer and much less aggressive. It does not look very different from the standard GLC Class, though with sportier wheels and a little darker fit, especially in profile. That does not mean it’s bad, because it’s a very nice SUV, it’s less aggressive, more sleepy than the X3 M40i. Both have similar shoulder lines, but the X3 M40i is more pronounced. The biggest difference between the two is in the D-pillar, where the BMW Hofmeister Kink moves upwards and the D-pillar line of AMG is flat. That accentuates the rear legs of the X3 M40i and makes the AMG GLC43 look a bit flat.
Inside, both cars are very different. The BMW X3 M40i has a more robust appearance, which features more chunkier design and trim. While the Mercedes-AMG GLC43 is more elegant and luxurious. They both have very nice cottages, very different. We can not really judge the quality of both because we have not spent much time on the new X3 M40i. From the look of them, however, it is difficult to choose one or the other, since both are so different.
In general, both of these cars will do well. The AMG is already working well and the X3 M40i should catch up. Both are stylish and sporty SUVs with enough room for a young family and enough performance for any car enthusiast. We can not wait for these two together to see how they compete.
