0xc000007b: Application Was Unable To Start Correctly [FIX]

If you see this error message: ‘The application could not start correctly,’ it is probably because you are trying to run a game or program and something is not right.

Below are several methods, most of which are simple, that you can use to try to repair error 0xc000007b. You may only need one, but in some cases, you will need a combination of them.

Usually, you will come across this error when there is a mixture of Windows versions and 32-bit and 64-bit applications.

Fix 1

Firstly, you should try to restart Windows. It sounds too good to be true, but sometimes it throws results.

Fix 2

In most cases, it is the Microsoft .NET Framework that causes the problems. You can download the latest version of Microsoft .NET Framework.

When it is installed (or reinstalled), restart and test your application or game again.

Fix 3

Try running the game or application with administrator rights. To do so, right click on the shortcut or the real executable of the game, select Properties and open the Compatibility tab. Check the box ‘Run this program as an administrator’ and click on OK.

Fix 4

You can also try to install the game again or program you are trying to run, simple but sometimes very effective.

Fix 5

Update Windows. In many cases, Windows will update automatically, but to verify it go to the Control Panel and look for ‘Windows Update.’

In later versions, including Windows 10, you can open the new Settings application (just look in the Start menu or click on the gear icon that appears just above the Windows logo when you click in the lower left corner of the screen.

In the Settings application, click Update and Security, then you should see a button to check for updates:

Fix 6

Run chkdsk by opening cmd (search for it or select run in the start menu).

In the window, type “chkdsk c: / f / r“. If it is the main Windows disk, it will ask you to program it for the next startup. When you reboot, it will do a check before reaching the login screen. Partitions or other units can also be verified in this way.

Fix 7

Reinstall DirectX. The way to do it depends on your version of Windows and the version of DirectX you need. There are complete instructions on the Microsoft website.
